A neat detective story set in Cornwall.  Jack Mitchell, our protagonist, is a semi-retired accountant doing some work for clients on tax returns.  He is also a church visitor tasked with seeing elderly parishioners.  The vicar asks him to visit Dorgy Pascoe who lives in the local almshouses and was enormously upset by a night demonstration by an animal rights organisation.  Dorgy won't reveal the reason for his agitation at first but Jack persists until some explanation is revealed.

Meanwhile Jack's wife, Catherine, is behaving irrationally and this worries Jack and their daughter.    As Jack becomes involved in Dorgy's tax affairs things take a more serious turn for Dorgy.  Jack attempts to find out the truth while trying to get Catherine to deal with her behaviour swings.  The two mysteries develop side by side accelerating towards dramatic events.

Results are achieved ultimately with Jack playing a major role.

Jennifer Palmer Throughout my reading life crime fiction has been a constant interest; I really enjoyed my 15 years as an expatriate in the Far East, the Netherlands & the USA but occasionally the solace of closing my door to the outside world and sitting reading was highly therapeutic. I now lecture to adults on historical topics including Famous Historical Mysteries.
