‘The Gender Experiment’ by L J Sellers

Taylor Lopez is an intern at the Denver morgue.  Receiving the body of a young person is always disturbing. According to the transport guy the young man had drowned in the pool in his apartment building.  As Taylor completes the paperwork as part of her job as a MLDI (Medical-legal-death intern), she checks that the details are correct Adrian Warsaw, age 21.  Closure inspection reveals him to have mixed genitalia.  This discovery is disturbing, not the dual-gender, but the fact that he was the second dead young intersex person to come into the morgue within the last three weeks.

In view of the similarities in the two cases Taylor makes further investigation that throws up the birth dates of the two victims being within seven months of each other. Aware that her body is like theirs, and that her birth date is within the same period as theirs, what, she ponders if there were more intersex kids within the same time frame – maybe their mothers had been exposed to something!

Considerably alarmed by her findings, Taylor becomes concerned that dual-gender people are being targeted for elimination. Could she be next? Her efforts to seek more information put her in great danger. Special FBI Agent Andra Bailey who we encountered in a previous book teams up with Taylor to uncover the horrendous experiment set in motion years ago.

But they are up against powerful people, as phase 2 of this dreadful experiment moves on.  Will they be in time? Can they uncover the truth in time to succeed saving other young people?

Fast-paced and incredibly fascinating this story gripped me form the first page and never let up. It is an unusual subject, and one of which I admit to being entirely ignorant. Sellers gives some local statistics which were also to me a revelation.

This is an interesting story and highly recommended by this reviewer.
